Love’s Bridge an update 2011

Michael along with interpreters Albina, (twice) Mitya (thrice), Alena and Olga have all worked with the Love’s Bridge Team on a series of talks with the team leaders in Perm - Including Lisa, Hamish and Hannah-Louise. Hamish and Hannah-Louise have now left Russia and returned to the U.K. The new project manager is Raphael  Several of the staff members have brought their own children in to the centre so that they may listen and learn some practical advice.  2010 saw a set of new faces. Love’s Bridge team leader Rafael introduced Dominic Kerins and a new interpreter Nicholay Delidov to the street teens and they were able to deliver the sexual health lecture and distribute cash condoms and clothes. Practical forthright and most worthwhile comments were fed back from the street teens.

Love’s Bridge

Every year Michael and an interpreter give a talk on sexual health to the street children associated with Love’s Bridge. Love’s Bridge is a wonderful organization that gives Russia’s most vulnerable children and young people the opportunity to fulfill their potential, becoming healthy, happy, independent and self-reliant citizens. The main focus of this work has been caried out from a variety of shelters. Firstly in Bolshevik Street then in Chikalova Street in the city centre. Most recently they have returned to the original building in Pushkin Street where Michael and Melanie met them in 2005.  In wintertime the street temperature drops often below minus 30 or even minus 40 degrees Celsius. Love’s Bridge have volunteer status in the city of Perm, where they carry out rehabilitative work with street youth, and preventative work among at-risk children and street living teenagers.

S.L.A.T.E Charity is also responsible for distribution of many thousands of condoms to help prevent unwanted pregnancies and reduce the risk of infection -
